Frequently Asked Questions

What is Food Science? Is it the same as Culinary Arts or Culinary Science?

Food Science is the discipline in which the engineering, biological, and physical sciences are used to study the nature of foods, the causes of deterioration, the principles underlying food processing, and the improvement of foods, whether produced in a manufacturing facility or your kitchen. In other words, it is why food does what it does. An understanding of Food Science principles naturally improves cooking and baking skills. Food Science degrees can also lead to food science careers. It is not the same as Culinary Arts, where you can become a Chef, for example. Culinary Science programs are similar to Culinary Arts, but also are light on Food Science. Both mostly focus on technique and experience.

Do your courses contain religious content?

No.

Do your Physics courses come with the LEGO® bricks needed for the course?

We offer a kit, called the Large Kit, which contains both the LEGO® bricks and other items needed for the course. This kit is priced at what it costs our company to produce it for you (we don't really make money on it). The kit is provided as a time saving convenience at parent's request. You can save some money by purchasing the parts yourself using the provided instructions directly from lego.com. Note: this option may take a while both entering the data and shipping as some parts come from Denmark. Most families choose to purchase our kit to save time. If you do choose to purchase the LEGO® parts and pieces on your own, you may want to purchase the Small Kit, which contains the non-LEGO® parts, but is included in the Large Kit.

How do I make a change to my subscription?

Subscription payments are mostly handled on a separate website from where online courses are consumed. If you don't see your subscription information at https://edible-knowledge.thinkific.com/users/sign_in, go to https://edibleknowledgecourses.spiffy.co/manage and follow the instructions for signing in there.  Note: You may cancel at any time using this link, on your own. However, if you would like to pause your account, please contact us at info@edible-knowledge.com and we will be happy to do that for you. Pausing (as opposed to cancelling) preserves any special rate you may have.

How do I count Food Science on my high school transcript?

We recommend counting the food science courses as Food Science as opposed to a science elective. Colleges and universities know what Food Science is and that if a student has taken a food science course they have been exposed to most of the sciences including biology, microbiology, chemistry, animal science, geology, physics and even engineering.
